Effective November 1, 2023, the Port Richey Police Department will begin education regarding the new signage erected at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Grand Boulevard. The new signage prohibits golf carts from crossing at this intersection. In accordance with F.S.S. 316.212(9) and City Ordinance 36.162(2) that was signed into effect by City Council on January 24, 2015. As an aside, golf cart crossing of U.S. Highway 19 is prohibited at any intersection in the City of Port Richey.
The education phase will be in effect until December 1, 2023, after which enforcement measures will begin. At that time, the PRPD will not conduct on-site monitoring/ enforcement measures but will address violations when observed during routine patrol and will respond to calls for service regarding violation(s).
If numerous calls for service are received or violations are observed then on-site monitoring/enforcement can become an alternate course of action.
The City has submitted a request/application to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to have the intersection approved for golf cart crossing. The signage will remain in place until such time as the FDOT renders a final decision.
