When properly filled and placed, sandbags can act as a barrier to divert moving water to prevent or reduce the risk of flood damage. Sandbags can be utilized for low-depth protection (up to two feet) and should be placed near the low points of your property where water can enter, such as window wells, doorways, and garage doors. Sandbags are available inside the Police Department for City Residents, however, they are self-service and you will be required to fill them on your own.
Sandbagging Instructions:
- Fill bags only 1/2 to 2/3 of the way full
- Fold the top of the sandbag down and under the placed bag.
- Place bags with the top folded down and in an uphill direction.
- Place each sandbag in an overlapping pattern. Be sure to complete a full row/layer prior to starting a new layer.
